最上階（５階）の屋根裏

屋根は３階の桁に載せ、
釘は使わず、３階以上は
縄と蔓（ネソ）で結ぶ。

The huge thatched
gable roof is all tied up
witｈ plain straw ropes
and vines without any
nails. It's just resting
on the 3rd floor!

切り妻の窓を約１５度
傾け「ころび」・防雨の
工夫がしてある。

.Gable windows are
slanted on purpose
so that rain doesn't
come in without
stormshutters !

Gasshou means ' joined hands'

３階以上は養蚕・貯蔵・乾燥室・畳を敷けば１６０畳

The attics were used mainly for raising
the silk-worms and also for drying and storing,
but never sleeping　! 　Why?
